Above is a short video clip from the film "Miles Above". A film that takes a unique look at the Columbia Disaster. When I first watched Miles Above I was struck by a curious editing of the official NASA audio during one section of the Mission Control coverage. Someone had taken Rick Husband's :58:48 call, moved it 30 seconds forward and spliced inside the MMACS "we just lost tire pressure on the left outboard and left inboard, both tires" call:

This-

08:58:48 a.m. - HUSBAND: "And, uh, Hou..."

08:59:18 a.m. - MCC-MMACS: "We just lost the tire pressure on the left outboard and left inboard, both tires.

"08:59:24 a.m. - MCC-CAPCOM: "And Columbia, Houston, we see your tire pressure...MCC-FLIGHT: "Copy..."

MCC-CAPCOM: "...messages and we did not copy your last." ...MCC-FLIGHT: "Is it instrumentation, MMACS?

08:59:30 a.m. - MCC-MMACS: "Ah...FLIGHT, MMACS, ...

Was changed to-

08:59:18 a.m. - MCC-MMACS: "...the tire... HUSBAND: "And, uh, Hou..." pressure on the left outboard and left inboard, both tires."

- MCC-MMACS: "FLIGHT, MMACS, ...

I wrote filmmaker Mike Welt and asked him why he had edited the audio this way and he informed me that this was exactly how this MCC footage had been presented to him. That whoever had done the editing for NASA was responsible for this rearranging of sound bites.

Like I said...seems curious.

If you've read my Question of Perception page you know that I don't believe Rick Husband's words were correctly transcribed.
